Seems like a really brave approach to me.
Does the Google rip-off give the brand the kind of stylistic polish you expect?
Is the search metaphor valid in this context? (ie. How many users know what to search for?)

Familiarity makes it nice to use.
Still haven't a clue what it's selling.
It's easy to use but it doesn't communicate or reinforce the identity of the brand which is all-important with fashion. I think you end up feeling a bit lost because you're not sure who they are.
Left feeling cold.
Great for brand adorers who just want to buy the product. But those new to the brand would be confused and unimpressed.
Hmm. Unless the goal is PR through controversy or being sued, I don't really think it's pretty flimsy. I don't quite understand the Google homage, Ksubi are a boutique fashion company that make awesome jeans and Google have their own verb.
There's no explanation of the company, anywhere. I initially thought that someone had ripped off Tsubi's brand, and had to go to Wikipedia to find out they changed their name due to legal issues.
There doesn't seem to be any need for the localised sites. I was able to add the same products to my cart in Australia and then deliver it to the UK, and even changed countries halfway through the checkout process. So all it appears to do is change the currency and maybe the shipping cost, not the stock or the content. So why not localise at checkout instead of it being the first thing I see?
Also, the first three products I added to my cart had out of stock messages only after I'd added them. If it's all in a warehouse in India, surely each product/size can be in a database like threadless.com do it. At the very least, tell the user before they click that it's out of stock.
As usual I'm torn, half of me hated it and thought that the environment was completely unsuitable for the product it was selling, but then I suppose that rather than blend in to the sea of existing clothes sites why not do something different that might get you noticed. Completely ripping off the Google look will probably do that. Overall, it was functional and had the familiarity aspect to it, I really wasn't confused for very long. The hot chicks on motor bikes may have clouded my judgment a little though.
I hate it. After 4 clicks I finally realised that they sell clothes. Still not really sure what kind, who they are aimed at etc. Why bother with a search engine metaphor. There are hardly any products to search. And what are 'projects'? The site doesn't tell me anything about the brand or the clothes. Pointless - although i rather liked the checked trousers.
Very odd approach in my view. Although I know the brand, it offered no insight into their values as a clothing company, apart from "trying to be clever" - maybe that's an analogy for their clothes?!
I'd also be interested to know whether Google took any issue with this...
And just as they launch their new Google inspired website, they tell Style File that they hate the internet.
“Well, it’s a bit of a crock, isn’t it?” remarks George Gorrow, co-founder of Ksubi with Dan Single. So naturally they’re asked why they’ve decided to relaunch Ksubi.com.
“You’ll see when it goes live, but it’s a pretty passive-aggressive Web site. We wanted it to seem as low-tech as possible, like a first-generation Internet version of Google,” replied Single. “But we also wanted to emphasize that the web site is there to be functional. What I really can’t stand is web sites that are all marketing. ‘Brand positioning’ what have you. Bells and whistles. At Ksubi.com, you search for something, you find it, you buy it. Or not.”
sure anonymous... but even what you're saying is some kinda marketing rationalisation and positioning in itself.
and whilst i agree with your want to embrace simplicity: "...you search for something, you find it, you buy it. Or not.", the reality is that for most people (familiar with ksubi or not), they wont have the foggiest clue what to search for. it'll be really interesting to look at the Google Analytics and see if people are searching, and if so, what...
