A More Mature Web
An interesting observation about the design implications of a maturing web:
"The Web is no longer a marvel of innovation, it's an everyday tool, and you differentiate yourself by providing both better content and better solutions to users' problems. "

the web is clearly still a marvel of innvoation, new technology and ways to use it are constantly appearing, and with it, the need to interact in new ways.
I'd agree that content and solutions need to get better, but making it an everyday tool is not a concrete requirement. If it is 'everyday', it'll blend into the masses, and it will use existing modes of thought which may not be enough to cope with innovation.
The internets are a series of tubes. If you don't understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material.
As the internet start to move in more main stream application (that can be used in places other than the office) I expect growth to increase again and new inovation given a chance
